La Torre de la Reforma. a small scale Eiffel tower-esque gift from France.

Tortillera

by Antigua. I feel like he saw me taking his picture and couldn't help but pose.

Antigua, a beautiful relic of what was probably a really gorgeous capital city at some point.

those mountains make me fall in love time and time again

holiday throwback

I haven’t gotten lazy in photographing.. just in uploading. This one’s from Christmas Eve. So much subtext in that gun-like gesture.

If for no other reason than the fact that he's a ball of preciousness, I love my dog because the site of him constantly challenges me pursue portraiture.

capoeirista portrait

Went over to a local gym and shot this Capoeira class. Before this, the only exposure I’d ever had to Capoeira was the couple of minutes in Meet the Fockers where Dustin Hoffman’s character speaks about it. oh and I saw some kids in high school practice it here and there way back when. The whole evening made me want to join a gym (which I’m currently looking into.)

escape to hometown

There was often the most beautiful combination of graffiti on the antiquated buildings

I finished my 2010 by making a trip down to Guatemala City last month and came back with more photos than I’ve ever shot in a week-long period.

Like I was expressing to a good friend recently, it was such a shame that I couldn’t have the whole city and all the time in the world to photograph it, because every single square block seemed in its own way so uniquely beautiful and photogenic to boot.

What I found especially, and to my utter surprise and delight, is that there was a lot of supremely talented street art. I’ve been making the effort to get back into that scene and so a lot of my photos also serve to inspire me when I get to drawin’.
